Item of the Week - Retro style brooch handmade by The Dorothy Days

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend. My item of the week for this week is my retro style handmade brooch. This is one of my favourite items in my shop. I individually make each brooch. The process involves sanding, printing, drying, heating, cooling and gluing. The brooch looks super cute pinned to a summer dress, a jacket or even a bag.

Take a look at the brooch in my shop by clicking HERE

Plans for March - How is it March already?!

Hello everyone,

How did it get to March?! I still can't get my head around it being 2015 let alone it being March! Feels like this year has already gone by super fast.

This month is shaping up to be an amazing month. I have a really packed schedule of exciting things including...

  • The Women of the World festival at London's Southbank Centre. I went last year and it was AMAZING so I can't wait to go again this year. There are workshops, talks, debates, a marketplace and just so much going on. I will try and take more photographs this year and hopefully will also write a blog post so watch out for that one!

  • I will be continuing to host a series of 'Live Chats' with the Dorset Etsy Team. We are working together as a group to improve our Etsy shops and so get together every Tuesday night online and discuss a topic for that week. It has been fantastic and I have learnt to so much.

  • A big family holiday to Cornwall, I can't wait. It is right by the sea and there is a slide in the house as well as stairs....thats right....a slide! Well we all know what I am going to be doing for the entire week....!!

  • I have been invited back to the U.K Etsy summit which this year will be held in Bristol. I can't wait to see all the other team captains who I have met before and also lots of new faces!

I will try and blog as much as possible this month and take lots of photographs for you all!

Thanks so much for all your support and to everyone reading the blog

Style Saturday - Party Style for New Year - How to wear a Tutu!

Even though New Year's Eve has been and gone there still seems to be lots of parties happening to celebrate the New Year. I was trying to find an outfit combination for Style Saturday this week and came across this beautiful collection. This is a perfect example of how to wear a tutu without looking like an overgrown fairy! Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw with this simple but elegant look which is bound to make an impression at your New Year parties. The heeled boots rather than pumps make this a more grown up outfit and wrap jumper is much more flattering than a tank top.

DIY No Sew Infinity Scarf Tutorial - What to do with your old t-shirts

Hello everyone,

Lots of us seem to be having a New Year tidy up and sort out of old things. I got two charity bin bags asking for donations this week to sell in charity shops so if you are doing a big old clear out please donate your unwanted bits in good condition to your local charity shops. If you are feeling creative you can also revamp some of your old things into something else new, I love a bit of make do and mend but sometimes time can be limited and you can't always do a long project so today I wanted to share with you all a 5 minute make (with no sewing!). My old t-shirts which aren't good enough for the charity shop I usually rip up and use as rags for cleaning but today I wanted to share with you all a fantastic tutorial of how to turn old t-shirts into a infinity scarf. Will certainly be trying this one and hopefully can also get creative and do some bleaching effects as well.

Enjoy and please do let me know in the comments section below or on Twitter if you gave this a go.

DIY - Knot Crop Top

Hello everyone,

I know that lots of my blog readers are creative and crafty type of people so I thought I would share a DIY tutorial with you all today. I really like this DIY idea as it is simple, quick to make, cheap and doesn't need any materials or tools apart from a pair of scissors and an old tank top!

How to make a knot crop-top ....
Knot Crop Top,DIY

I also think the top looks really cute when it is just tasselled or when it just has some of the first few knots rather than knots all the way down. You could also experiment with dip dying it in a coloured dye for an ombre effect or bleaching it on the fringe.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, let me know in the comments below if you do attempt to make this, I would love to hear all about it or tweet me

Leaving for Berlin tomorrow!

Hey everyone,

So I am off to Berlin tomorrow for the Etsy Captain's summit. So excited!

I have mastered rather skilfully trying to squish everything into a tiny little backpack! So far so good but it is always the last minute things that you add in that are the problem so hopefully will be able to fit everything I need in!

Very excited to meet other team captains and to hear their experiences of leading a team, their ideas and projects they have been involved in. Will also be great to have the opportunity to talk to other Etsy sellers and share tips!

I am taking my iPad with me on the trip and I am planning on taking lots of photos and if I get the chance, also update my blog and Twitter with how the summit is going and what we have been up to. Hopefully these updates will be interesting for other Etsy team captains who couldn't make the summit, other Etsy sellers and also people who do not have Etsy shops or run a team but are interested in Berlin and seeing what I am up to!!

20 days to go until Christmas Day - The Dorothy Days countdown!!

Hello everyone,

Well it is just 20 days to go now until Christmas day so I thought I would share with you all a rather Christmasy collection!

I am really hoping that it is going to snow this year and that we will get a White Christmas, is anyone else hoping for the same? It always looks so amazing where I live when it snows as, because I live in a rural location, the snow is left untouched for most of the day and doesn't turn to slush so quickly. We are also in a valley so get lots of snow and it is great for sledging!!

Hope you like this Christmasy themed snow collection. I particularly like the Christmas jumper, still need to get mine out the cupboard!

The start of April = The start of the April showers!

I can't believe it is April already! It feels like time has really flown by since I have started this blog back in snowy December and I am really excited that Spring is now here and summer (my absolutely favourite time of year) is just around the corner. April so far has been very typical of Aprils in England....perfectly sunny one moment with lovely blue skies and then short burst of April showers the next! I really should learn to take an umbrella out with me as I keep getting caught out in the rain! Here are some snaps taken from a little wander in the countryside that I thought you would enjoy.....

A rather curious sheep!
This horse was really friendly and rather liked being stroked
And of course....my favourite pink wellies.....!!
Please note all photos are copyighted to me so please do not use in any way without permission :)
