New products for summer - The Dorothy Days

Hi everyone,

It has been such a long time since I last blogged (January....eek!). My blog has taken a bit of a back seat this year as I have been concentrating on building my Instagram account  and also making new products for my shop.

At the start of this year, I was busy making lots of knitted hats and this summer I have been concentrating on making lots of summer jewellery and products.

I thought I would share with you all today some of my favourite new products in my Etsy shop.

I hope that you will like them too.

First up are these beautiful butterfly wing earrings. I thought these would be perfect for summer with a floaty floral dress or would look great at a wedding or summer prom.

I also experimented with my new range with some new product photography and I am really pleased with how it has turned out.

Find my butterfly earrings here: https://www.etsy.com/thedorothydays/listing/526088896/white-butterfly-earrings-bridesmaid

My latest listing are these lovely "Thank You" tags with flag shaped detail. I thought they would be perfect for using at a wedding as favour tags or for a bridal shower or baby shower. They come in packs of 10 tags and would add a vintage/rustic look to an event.

I was really excited to get this vintage boat print listed in my shop as it is the largest vintage print that I have had for sale in my shop so far and makes quite an impact. The colours in this print are really beautiful and it is in great condition. Would be great for adding a nautical element to a room.

Just one of these available as it is a vintage piece. You can find it here: https://www.etsy.com/thedorothydays/listing/538881409/boat-print-for-framing-nautical-home

I have listed a series of beautiful vintage postcards. I think this one is my favourite of the postcards I have listed so far. The postcard hasn't been used so could either be framed and displayed or used as a greetings card or, if you are feeling really creative, could also be used in a crafting project.

I have been selling my tassel key rings for a while so this isn't a new product but I have recently brought out some new colours including this beautiful purple keyring/ keychain.

Perfect for helping you to identify your keys!

Thanks so much for reading and I really hope that you all like my new products. Thank you for all your support and purchases recently.

Film Friday - Casse- Croute - A short nature animation

This week's film is a fun but also beautiful animation by directing duo Burcu Sankur and Geoffrey Godet called Casse-croûte which they describe as A little journey through a forest full of creatures looking for a snack.

Hope you enjoy this film and thanks for reading my blog!

For all of you wedding planning in 2017....!

Something that really made me smile over Christmas was that the amount of searches in my shop for wedding items dramatically went up which means that lots of you got engaged over the Christmas break! How exciting. Congratulations!

We had an engagement over the Christmas break in our family too and the bride-to-be has already been using Pinterest as a way to start planning her big day.

Over the last few years my Wedding Pinterest board has grown and become quite popular. It is my absolute favourite board on my Pinterest account so today I thought I would share it with you all and hope that if you got engaged over Christmas or that you are planning a wedding this year, that it might prove useful! I try to keep it regularly updated so new pins are being added all the time.

Craft Tutorial: How to make a basic (but very cool!) small table

Hi everyone,

I have been really loving the whole industrial look recently and have seen some really cool things that people have been making out of piping, tubing and other industrial materials.

Today I wanted to share with you all this wonderful tutorial on how to make your very own industrial style table. The tutorial is really quick and easy but the finished result is really effective. I love that the design is versatile so you can also switch from tall bed side table height table to a coffee table just by tipping the table and changing the wooden board.

Happy April/ April Fools Day!

Happy April everyone!

I feel like March went by particularly quickly, it was a really busy month with lots on and felt like there wasn't enough hours in the day so looking forward to April and hoping that it will be a busy but also more relaxed month.

1st of April also means that it is April Fools' Day! Anyone doing any pranks today?

April Fools' Day is a long running tradition. The first recorded association between 1st April and pranks/ foolishness was in 1392!

I found this ticket from the Tower of London for washing the lions (!). No event ever took place but it is an early example of an April Fools prank which made me smile so I thought I would share with you all. It dates from 1837!

If you are looking to do your own pranks this April fools day there are some fun ideas over here on this Buzzfeed article

Have a great month everyone

The Dorothy Days - Year so far...

Hello everyone,

Can't believe it is nearly March, how have 2 months sped by already?! It has been such a busy year so far so I thought it would be fun to share some of the highlights so far and celebrate with you all some milestones too :).

#1  - 1000 Instagram Followers

So happy to reach this big milestone this month.  Instagram is fast become one of my favourite platforms to use and I am really happy that lots of you have come over and followed me :) thank you!

#2 - Sellers Advisory Board
I was selected to be part of the Sellers Advisory Board for Etsy! I am so excited to be part of this and will be flying out to New York for the first meeting in a few weeks time.

#3 - New Hobby

One of my new year's resolutions was to take up a new hobby so I decided to take up painting. I have been experimenting with acrylics and then recently started painting in watercolour.

Finding it really relaxing and enjoyable and it has been fun experimenting with different things to paint and ways of painting.

#4 A New Arrival

The Cradle - Beret Morisot - Musee d'Orsay

This month my family got one bigger! He is beautiful. So exciting especially as we haven't had a new baby in the family for over a decade!

#5 Vienna

Had the most amazing trip to Vienna, it is so beautiful out there and I hope that I will get to return some time in the future. Has to be one of my favourite places I have visited to far.

#6 Getting organised!

#7 A HUGE milestone

This month I reached a HUGE milestone for my little Etsy shop and made my 1000th sale. So exciting! Each and every sale means so much to me and I can still remember the joy of receiving my very first sale (I did do a little happy dance!!) and still get so much join from receiving new sales from across the world. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my little shop!

#8 Origami Challenge

As well as my painting, I have also started trying to learn how to make origami and set myself the challenge of making one per day. I thought it would be fun to post my makes up on social media so have started the hashtag #TDDOrigami and you can follow along on either Twitter or Instagram

#9 More vintage

When I first started my shop I sold tags and vintage items and slowly have been making more and more handmade items for the shop which I totally love but am making it my goal this year to add more vintage items too. So far I have added lace bobbins, beautiful vintage brooches, trinket boxes etc and I have been experimenting with my shop photography too!

#10 New Branding

Decided that this year it was time for a little bit of a rebrand in my shop so I now have a new logo and banner and should have some new business cards on the way soon as well!

Exciting stuff!

Thanks for reading
